Federal prosecutors have brought a recent social media post by former President Donald Trump to the attention of a judge, expressing concerns that his message could be used to target witnesses in his ongoing legal challenges. The post, made on Truth Social, a platform co-owned by Trump, declared, “If you go after me, I’m coming after you!”
Attorneys from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team, Molly Gaston and Thomas Windom, filed a court document late on Friday, alerting U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan to the combative post. They highlighted that Trump’s statement appeared to reference individuals involved in his criminal case related to the 2020 election.
The prosecutors expressed worries that Trump might misuse evidence in the case by sharing it on his social media account. They requested that he be ordered to refrain from making any discovery materials provided to his defense team publicly accessible.
In response to the filing, a spokesperson for Trump asserted that the mentioned post was a form of political speech, targeting specific special interest groups and political action committees.
