Did we say bake? What we meant was Martha Stewart makes history by landing on the cover of Sports Illustrated at 81 years old. The TV personality, well-known for her recipes in the kitchen DIY home decor, is proving that age is only but a number, being the oldest model the magazine has yet to honor. Her beauty graced the cover of the 2023 issue of Sports Illustrated wearing a white plunge bathing suit while in the Dominican Republic.

“When I heard that I was going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s pretty good, I’m going to be the oldest person I think ever on a cover of Sports Illustrated,'” Stewart said. “And I don’t think about age very much, but I thought that this is kind of historic.”The entrepreneur noted that her motivation behind doing the shoot was to prove that it’s possible to look and feel good at any age. She says, “Age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship or in terms of success, but what people do, how people think, how people act, that’s what’s important and not your age.”During an interview with Variety Stewart revealed that her daughter, Alexis, supported her by saying, “cool,” rather than calling her crazy. “I though that was the best response,” she told the outlet.And, Stewart is no stranger to the modeling world. In her 20s she posed for legends including Richard Avedon and was the face in photos for fashion houses like Chanel. Stweart told Variety, “When I was a model and posing all the time in bathing suits and sporty sexy things, that’s the time I should have been on the cover,” she says before adding with a laugh, “But I wasn’t $75-an-hour model then. I was only a $50- and $60-an-hour model.”

Stewart is not shy about her age or her looks. In fact, she works hard to look as good as she does. After finding out about her spot on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Stewart upped her Pilates to three times a week, became more conscious of her eating habits, and stopped drinking alcohol. She revealed, “I had my regular facials but maybe more frequently and I also got a spray tan.” Adding, “And I’m not a hairy person, but I got a complete body wax.”

And, naturally, people comment with the assumption that Stewart has had work done to maintain her youthful appearance but she shut down any negative talk saying, “There are only a few naysayers saying, ‘The pictures are over-retouched.’ But they’re not. They are incredibly accurate pictures. I was really pleased that there was not much airbrushing.”

Stewart admitted to dabbling with fillers for the little lines that appear here ad there but she hasn’t ever taken it as far as Botox. “I’ve had absolutely no plastic surgery whatsoever. I have very healthy, good hair. I drink green juice every day. I take my vitamins. I eat very healthfully. I have very good skin doctors. I’m very careful in the sun. I wear hats and I wear sunblock every single day,” she told Variety.
