Today, President Joe Biden announced that he would pardon all federal offenses for simply marijuana possession – and nearly simultaneously, devastating news hit the family.
Prosecutors believe that they've now gathered enough evidence to charge Biden's son, Hunter Biden, with tax crimes.
The fact that both news stories broke simultaneously seems unlikely to be an accident – but it's certainly a day of high highs and low lows for the Bidens.

Those familiar with the case told The Washington Post this week that investigators believe they have enough evidence to charge Hunter with financial crimes and false statements. Investigators may also have enough evidence to charge the President's son with making a false statement related to a gun purchase.
It's unclear exactly what sort of prison time the First Son could face if any, if convicted.
Hunter first shared with the public that he was under investigation back in 2020.
At the time, he explained in a statement, "I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs. I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors."

Hunter Biden has been the center of a firestorm of conservative hate over the past 4 years, with critics even going so far as to make a movie detailing wild and criminal behavior that they believe Hunter has engaged in over the years.
This entire case puts President Biden's commitment to the test when he said he would restore independence and public trust in the Department of Justice, which waned under his predecessor.
An indictment against the President's son could do much to further that cause – and a failure to indict could harm it greatly.
Counsel for Hunter is furious that the information has leaked. Business Insider writes, "Chris Clark, a lawyer representing the younger Biden, did not comment on the substance of the Post's story and accused investigators of leaking.
'It is a federal felony for a federal agent to leak information about a Grand Jury investigation such as this one,' Clark said in a statement to the paper. 'Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony. We expect the Department of Justice will diligently investigate and prosecute such bad actors. As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense. That is the job of the prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing their job.'"
