An express train named Hazara Express derailed in southern Pakistan, resulting in the loss of at least 30 lives and leaving many others injured. The ill-fated train was carrying around 950 passengers and was en route from Karachi to Havelian when at least 10 carriages veered off the tracks near Nawabshah.

The tragedy has once again brought the dilapidated state of Pakistan’s railway infrastructure to the forefront. Preliminary reports indicate that the Hazara Express was running at a moderate speed of 45 kilometers per hour (approximately 28 mph) when the derailment occurred. The cause of the incident remains uncertain and is under investigation.

Rescue workers and locals rushed to the accident site to assist the injured, with images showing the wreckage of the carriages and rescue efforts in progress. The injured, including women and children, were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The military also stepped in to support the rescue operations, deploying troops and helicopters to assist with evacuation and transportation of the wounded. An emergency was declared at hospitals in Nawabshah to accommodate the influx of injured passengers.
